HOUSING PROBLEM IN MAURITIUS: SOLUTIONS

As many now are homeless in Mauritius, here are some solutions that have been successfully applied in other countries: children are living in the cold winter, without any shelter, when cheap solutions are available within few weeks!

For most people now, buying land is just a dream![due to sky rocketing of prices and speculations on real estate business.

1.    Convert a vehicle into a temporary house: such solution is now current in many countries, including the USA. There are many vehicles that can be purchased low price, and converted into a temporary/permanent residence, providing land is available for parking as well as toilet facilities.

The price of a container is about Rs.35,000 up, and furnishing is up to the owner!

4.    Convert a shipping container into an apartment or a permanent house, at a low price, compared to concrete housing. This can be done in Mauritius or bought straight from other countries. Thus, a home can be made available rapidly for suffering families. If 2 or more containers are joined together, this can be quite a wonderful solution.  Interested parties can join together in order to get land on bail or acquisition, on a cooperative way.

5.    Houses can be made with bamboo, as is done in Asia, but it has to be done properly in order to face cyclones!

6.    Houses can be made out of earth and cow dung bricks as is currently done in Asia, as not all can afford modern brick houses.
